Sub-Metering Overview

  • If you just have a Billing Power Meter in the Building, you know how much Power the Building is using, however you don't know where you are using the Power.

  • With Sub-Metering you can find out where you are using Power, and then work out strategies to reduce Power Consumption

Reasons for Sub Metering

  • You cannot Manage what you cannot Measure.

  • To find out what times of the day you are using the most Power and why.

  • To find out which Departments / Tenants are using the most Power and why.

  • Detect potential Failures – if a device is using a lot more or a lot less energy to normal.

  • If you are on Time-of-Day Tariffs for Energy Consumption, optimise your operations to use Power when it is cheaper
  •  In the Green Building Council of New Zealand Green Star Program install Energy Sub-Metering is worth 2 Points out of the 29 available for the Energy Category.  To get these Points you must Sub-Meter any device using more than 100kVa (Sub-Metering on devices consuming less then 100kVa is optional).
